We are delighted to be returning to in-person pantomime touring this Winter with our acclaimed family and schools pantomime, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. Providing a contemporary Scottish-twist that our audiences have come to love, this production will feature a spellbinding set, sing-along songs and centres around the theme of women in STEM. This new adaptation is written by Edinburgh-based playwright and theatre-maker, Isla Cowan. You can find out more about the writer via Isla’s website and our blog here.
We are seeking twelve performers, to form three casts which will tour throughout Winter. Rehearsals will take place in early November for approximately two weeks.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Applications are open for performers who are interested in developing their skills working and touring theatre for young audiences. We are casting for fourteen performers to work across the above two projects.
We welcome applications from performers who we have not met before and welcome applications from people who identify as; global majority, LGBTQI+, disabled or neurdiverse, working-class, and/or marginalised in the arts.
All applicants must be over 18 years old and have the right to work in the UK.
ROLES
The production features four characters. These are:
JACK
Playing age: Jack is a secondary school pupil (12-14 years). We anticipate that the actor has a young playing age.
Gender: Female-identifying. We welcome submissions from actors who are transgender, non-binary and/or non-conforming.
Description: Jack was raised in a working-class Scottish family and attends a school for children who are gifted in science. Jack is cheeky, creative and a bit of a prankster. Jack isn’t afraid to take risks!
HEAD TEACHER
Playing age: 30-50 years.
Gender: We welcome applications from any gender.
Description: The Head Teacher is ‘THE DAME’ of the pantomime. They are always giving Jack into trouble and realising that Jack is up to no good. They set the standards and have a scary, quirky and know-it-all attitude, but of course, they are hilarious, too!
GIANT
Playing age: 40+ years.
Gender: Female-identifying. We welcome submissions from actors who are transgender, non-binary and/or non-conforming.

QUENTIN
Playing age: Quentin is a secondary school pupil (12-14 years). We anticipate that the actor has a young playing age.
Gender: Male-identifying. We welcome submissions from actors who are transgender, non-binary and/or non-conforming.
